A last word on Greece

A few people have asked me about my trip and I have directed them here so I’d though I’d add a one pager summary for those who don’t want to wade through dozens of pages and hundreds of photos.

My trip involved 23 nights on the ground in Greece.

Day 1

Arrived in the evening after the long flights from Australia. Train and a short walk to my hotel.

Accommodation: Kimon Athens Hotel

Day 2

Early morning bus to Delphi. Plenty of time for a long lunch and exploration of the museum and historical site before dinner.

Accommodation: Acropole Hotel Delphi

Day 3

Morning of shopping and wandering before afternoon of 4 buses and a taxi for a late evening arrival in Kastraki. First glimpses of Meteora.

Accommodation: Ziogas Rooms, Kastraki

Day 4

Full day at Meteora. Organised half day and twilight tours with Visit Meteroa Travel. Long lunch and wander around town in between. Dinner in Kalambaka following twilight tour.

Day 5

Relaxed morning in Kastraki and Kalambaka before midday bus trip back to Athens, followed by train to Piraeus.

Boarded Anek ferry for overnight journey to Chania, Crete.

Day 6

6am arrival in Chania. Luggage put in storage at bus station and city explored. Full day of wandering, eating and taking in the sights.

Day 7

Morning exploring Chania, afternoon bus to Vamos for late afternoon cooking class. Late bus back to Chania.

Day 8

Early bus to Samaria Gorge. Full day of hiking to Agia Roumelli. Ferry and bus back to Chania late evening.

Day 9

Full day of bus travel to Plaka arriving mid afternoon. Relaxing evening.

Accommodation: Airbnb, Stella Mare Apartments.

Day 10

Boat to Spinalonga and a few hours exploring there. Time for a long lunch, swim and relaxing afternoon as well.

Day 11

Buses to Heraklion. Exploration of fortress, archaeological museum and Knossos.

Accommodation: Kronos Hotel

Day 12

High speed ferry trip to Santorini. Afternoon spent exploring Akotriri.

Accomodation: Asimina Hotel

Day 13

Fira to Oia hike, lunch in Ammoudi, boat to Thirassia for the afternoon. Evening in Fira.

Day 14

Bus to Perissa. Day spent exploring Perissa, Emborio, Megalochori.

Day 15

Bus to Pyrgos. Day spent exploring Pyrgos and Exo Gonia. Relaxing evening and sunset in Fira.

Day 16

Morning ferry to Paros. Day spent exploring Parikia.

Accommodation: Hotel Dina

Day 17

Boat to Antiparos. Caves. lunch. shopping.

Day 18

Day trip to Delos and Mykonos

Day 19

Took Blue Star ferry for five hours on Naxos.

Day 20

Ferry to Athens. Afternoon at National Archaeological Museum.

Accommodation: Kimon Athens Hotel.

Day 21

Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, Hadrian’s Library, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Panathenaic Stadium, National Gardens, Syntagma, Kerameikos.

Changed accommodation to an Airbnb.

Day 22

Acropolis and Museum.

Day 23

Bus trip to Nafplio and on to Epidauros, then back to Athens.

Final Day

Shopping and long lunch before flight home
