In June 2016 I had one night in Hamburg. I had been there in 2014 and honestly only went there this time because Qantas points wouldn’t take me to Berlin. It was, however, a good way to begin my second trip to Europe, starting in a familiar place.
I had an evening and a morning there. This might as well have been a whole day, since it was daylight well before 5am and I was jet lagged. First task was to reacquaint myself with currywurst and German beer. At the Reeperbahn, of course.
After a good sleep I had an early wander around the quiet pre-6am streets of Hamburg to get some photos. The main train station, the Hautbanhof, is very impressive and the Rathaus is a spectacular building. The morning light made for some lovely reflections on the water. I wasn’t in Hamburg long, but it was nice to start off in a familiar place.
Obligatory pastry at the station before departing for Berlin. It is called Franzbrotchen and is delicious.
Next stop, Berlin.
